Find out just how easy it is to make this springtime lemon lavender homemade soap recipe now!

What are the ingredients to make homemade soap?

I started with one of my favourite soap bases – cocoa butter. With one of the highest-rated lathers, cocoa butter melt and pour soap base, creates a noticeably creamy lather. Rich in vitamin E, the ingredients hydrate and soothe skin.

If you’re new to soap making, melt and pour soap is how soap can be made without having to handle lye. Soap bases allow us to focus on the design and customisation of soap making, such as the colour, fragrance, shape, and additives like lavender.

How do you make lavender soap with real lavender?

If you’ve never added real lavender to soap, it’s something you should definitely try now! Real lavender is a fantastic complement to soap. But, keep in mind fresh lavender and lemons, while we’re on the subject, aren’t ideal for soap making. They won’t keep for the length of time a bar of soap lasts, and heat can quickly turn fresh ingredients brown.

Dried lavender and dried lemon slices, on the other hand, can last for years!

How can I make natural lavender soap colour?

If you love the colour of the lavender soap too, it might surprise you that it’s very easy to achieve with natural colourant. I only use natural, non-toxic colourants for soap, such as clay, mica powder, and spices. Lavender mica powder is what gives this soap a beautiful spring-like purple colour.

Lemon Lavender Soap Ingredients

25 drops lavender essential oil

20 drops lemon essential oil

½ pound cocoa butter melt and pour soap base

½ teaspoon lavender mica powder

1 hexagon silicone soap mould

1 tablespoon dried lavender flower buds

2 dried lemon slices

How To Make Lemon Lavender Soap

  1. In a small glass bowl or measuring cup combine 1/2 teaspoon lavender mica powder with 2 tablespoons 99% isopropyl alcohol. Blend together with a metal whisk to avoid clumping and set aside. (You can wear gloves for this step to avoid colouring your hands, but it doesn’t stain.)

  2. Prepare the hexagon silicone soap mould by cleaning, drying, and spritzing with rubbing alcohol.

  3. Cut two dried lemon slices in half and place inside the cavities of the soap mould.

  4. Then carefully slice ½ pound of cocoa butter melt and pour soap base into ½” to 1” cubes using a soap knife.

  5. Scoop the sliced cocoa butter soap base into a large glass measuring cup. Melt in a water bath or you can place it in the microwave and melt the soap base in 30 seconds intervals, stirring intermittently to avoid burning for approximately 1 to 1.5 minutes total.

  6. When melted, remove the melted soap base from the water bath or microwave and whisk in your colour mixture.

  7. Next, add 25 drops of lavender essential oil and 20 drops of lemon essential oil. Blend thoroughly together and carefully pour into the cavities of the soap mould.
