Friday 8 March 2019 Thank you cards

Purchased the black thank you card with the letters die cut but were still in place so rather than discard them, used them to create another card using a white card blank with the letters adhered. Two for the price of one!

Friday 14 December 2018 New Home Card

Alternative use for Christmas dies before they are put away. Die cuts are layered up and put behind an aperture. By snipping out the Christmas trees and adding in other trees, the card would be improved even further.

Friday 7 December 2018 Decorated Tote bags

Stencilled cotton tote bags with little fabric decorations for added interest. These are applied with fusible adhesive backing so no stitching required.

Friday 30 November 2018 Christmas Cards

Following on from the blog on the 16 November, I have created 4 cards using only 1 A4 piece of printed backing card, toppers and card blanks. This really makes your stash go a long way. Here’s how. The swing card was created by cutting a piece of card 22cm x 18cm. The square card with 2 matching triangles was created by cutting a 7.5cm square and then cutting this in half diagonally. The gate fold card was made from a rectangle 13.5cm x 7.6cm and finally the banner card used a strip 3cm x 17cm. By clever cutting you can achieve this too.

Friday 23 November 2018 Christmas Gift Bag

Another little recycling project. Christmas gift bag made using an Easter egg box. Had originally thought of adding panels of printed card to the sides but then decided to cover in paper. Added a piece of card to the base to strengthen it and punched holes in the top for handles which are an old shoe lace! The front is a picture cut from an old Christmas card placed on a die cut shape with a scrap of ribbon made into a little bow. Costs pennies to make.

Friday 16 November 2018 Christmas Cards and Tags

Challenged myself to make three cards from a topper sheet and one co-ordinating piece of card as well as plain card blanks and this is what I came up with. The printed card was cut into 3 equal sized pieces to produce a standard DL card, a tent fold card and an 8x8 Z fold card. Even the printed waste was used to create borders and the left-overs made 4 tags. Why not enrol on a card making class and have a go at making something similar? Next class Wed 21 November at 7pm.

Friday 9 November 2018 Christmas Tags

A couple of different tag options using the same die from Printable Heaven. One is cut on white card and coloured whilst the other is cut on green card. Layers are decoupaged on top of each other.

Friday 26 October 2018 Halloween Luminaries

Different techniques used to make these sample pieces for a workshop. The orange one is created using strips of tissue paper and then die cutting a scene which is applied on top. The lilac one is created by outlining a scene in permanent marker on the front of the jar. Just needs a little more filling in to create a solid black effect. The purple jar was purchased but a jam jar painted with PVA glue and food colouring will give the same effect.

Friday 16 March 2018 Stamped Cards

It’s been a long time since I shared some cards. This workshop focused on stamped cards, a technique that some people shy away from because it takes a little practice to stamp a clean, clear image. It can be made a little easier with condensed foam blocks or using a stamping platform which allows you to re stamp again if you don’t get a sharp image, first time around. Why not give it a go and join the card making classes. With the correct tools, you’ll be surprised what you can achieve.

As well as using glass paints, there is an alternative using kitchen cupboard ingredients to get a similar look. Why not come along to the workshops next week and experiment.

Friday 2 February 2018 Baby Boy Brag Book

Friday 29 December 2017 - Marbling with nail polish

I recently have done some research on decorating ceramics and loved the marbling technique using nail varnish. Same technique as marbling any other item but takes a little practice to get an even coating first time. Used the same technique on a mug but my container was not large enough to get a good dip first time. This and other techniques will be listed on the workshop section in the New Year for anyone who wants to give it a go. In the meantime, can I wish everyone a happy New Year.

Friday 22 December 2017- Frosted jars

A cute table centrepiece which was part of the kids craft sessions this year. Artificial greenery and berries meant that it could be made well in advance of Christmas. Simple but effective and something that parents and family members would be proud to display.

Friday 24 November 2017 Christmas Tags

A variety of techniques were used to produce a batch of Christmas tags. Great workshop for those wanting to dabble in a range of techniques and use a variety of materials. Useful for using up the peel-offs that so many of us have in abundance.

Friday 17 November 2017 Stocking Fillers - Pinecone Fire Starters and Mulling Spices

Made these for a recent craft fair. Pinecones dipped in scented wax. Beautiful aroma and useful stocking filler. This page was put together using 2 8 x 8 pieces of decorative paper on a 12 x 12 background that had a stitched border. A vellum quote and diecut bunting and hearts were added together with a wooden ‘Love’ embellishment. Loved how this turned out using bright unconventional papers for a baby page.

Simple little idea to gift an emergency sewing kit. Card outer with fabric applied to cover and felt embellishment.

Friday 18 August 2017 Sashiko embroidery

The Japanese word sashiko means little stabs. Sashiko stitching is a traditional embroidery style from Japan. Originally used for repairs and reinforcements, in the present day it is more often employed for its decorative purposes. Sashiko stitching is a simple yet elegant embroidery style that creates repeating patterns of varying complexity. The only stitch you need throughout is a running stitch, and the aim is to keep your stitches as regular as possible. The gap between each stitch should be half the size of the stitch itself. This embroidery is also important in quilting. Patterns are usually worked in 6 strands of embroidery floss or a size 8 or 22 pearl cotton or traditional sashiko thread.

Clean and simple thank you cards which suit male recipients as well as female recipients. Washi tape, thread and the sentiment are all that is required.

Friday 28 July 2017 Heritage Scrapbook Page

A lot of you have old black and white photos lying in boxes and in time the story behind the photo or indeed who the people are in the photo will be lost. This scrapbook layout is suitable to record the story and preserve the memories. The wedding title can easily be substituted to reflect the intended photo.

Friday 21 July 2017 Decorated canvas bags

More altered canvas bags. The pink bag has a banner of fabric triangles secured to the front of the bag with ribbon and buttons running along the top whilst the blue bag has fabric paint applied through a stencil.

Friday 14 July 2017 Decorated glass jar

Nice little receptacles for a bunch of flowers to gift. The pink jar was made by applying Mod Podge to a glass jar and placing a decorated napkin on top and then applying a top coat of Mod Podge to seal. Another option is to transfer photocopied images by means of sticky tape to the jar, as demonstrated in the yellow jar.

Friday 7 July 2017 Edwardian Style Cards and Tags

To accompany the Tussie Mussies, it is important to let the recipient know the meaning of the flowers that it contains, for example rose symbolises love, wheat symbolises prosperity and the daisy symbolises innocence . It is appropriate that the card providing this detail is in the same era and so the samples below show cards and tags in various sizes which could be used.

Friday 30 June 2017 Tussie Mussies

I made a number of samples for a recent make and take session for the Carnegie Family Fun Day. For some I used a pre made cone which was painted and then the napkin decoupage technique was used to decorate. However, for a make and take session, I did not have time to wait for the paints to dry so using a template, the children constructed the cone out of stiff card, decorated it with stamps and drawing and then adhered Edwardian floral images to the front. The older children had the option of making paper rosettes.

Friday 23 June 2017 Friendship Bracelet

An add on party activity that can be completed relatively quickly and lets the girls take home something that they have made and reminds them of their creative day. The little kraft tags with a friendship saying and a silver star charm on a cord bracelet are available to purchase from the shop.
